Franklin County Continuing the Political Revolution is cancelling the “March for Our Lives – Anti Gun Violence Rally” scheduled for Saturday June 11 at Noon on the Greenfield Common.
While we wished to hold this rally to be part of a national effort to curb gun violence we now feel the logistics of holding this rally at the same time as the Franklin County Pride March is too complicated. Not only will thousands of people be coming into Greenfield, there will also be a raising of the Pride flag on the Greenfield Common at noon. We fully support the Pride March and Gathering at the Energy Park.
To be clear, we were in contact with the organizers of the Pride March about the two events. This was their response in an email to us:
“We appreciate you reaching out. I’d heard there was a broad effort for rallies on June 11 to end gun violence, and we are glad to hear a rally will occur in Greenfield. Chances are you will receive some agreeable shouts of support as we march by, especially due to the number of schools we have participating. We also trust that Greenfield can hold both of these events.
We look forward to see you in action on Saturday.”
For those of you who wish to take part in the “March for Our Lives – Anti Gun Violence”, there will be an event in Amherst on Saturday June 11 from 10am to 2pm, at N. Pleasant St, Kendrick Park, Amherst
For those of you who want to take part in the Pride March, the gathering point is Greenfield Middle School, and the March sets off at Noon on Saturday.
