On Saturday, June 28th, the Immigration Rights Task Force held a “Rally for Immigrants Rights” on the steps of City Hall in Greenfield. We began with a Land Acknowledgment by David Bruhle, followed by comments from state senator Jo Comerford and state representative Natalie Blais. We then heard from John Miller, professor of Economics, on the positive impact of immigrants on the national economy. Rabbi James Greene sent some comments about his direct work with immigrants in Springfield, and then civil rights attorney Buz Eisenberg talked about the truths and lies spread daily. We concluded with spoken word artist Nbs Malay, passionately sharing the experiences of those detained and now missing. We were also entertained and inspired by singers Annie Hassett, Molly Scott and the Expandable Brass Band. A “clothesline” arts installation was included, with teeshirts displaying the stories of those “kidnapped” by ICE. Donations were encouraged for supporting the Franklin County People’s Fund.
