Single-Payer Ballot Question – Are you going to your Town Meeting?

The Single-Payer Task force is about to begin collecting signatures to put the following question on our ballots in November.

“Shall the Representative from this District be instructed to vote for legislation to create a single-payer system of universal health care that would provide all Massachusetts residents with comprehensive health care coverage including the freedom to choose doctors and other health care professionals, facilities, and services, and that would eliminate the role of insurance companies in health care by creating a publicly administered insurance trust fund?”

The task force is looking for people to help collect signatures to put this question on the ballot in Paul Mark’s and Steve Kulik’s districts. The signature collecting will start at Town Meetings. Can you help collect signatures and pass out information on how a single-payer health system will work in Massachusetts?

In Shelburne there is a resolution in favor of “Medicare for All” that will appear on the Town Meeting warrant. If you live in Shelburne please attend your Town Meeting and vote.

Franklin County Peoples Fund

The Franklin County Peoples Fund is a growing circle of community support for local families who are experiencing crises because they have been targeted. It began in spring 2017 in response to increased fears among immigrants in our community that their loved ones would be deported and their families torn apart. The fund provides emergency assistance to help families stay together when possible, and to survive the financial trauma if they are separated. In the past year, it has paid for children’s passports, DACA renewals and fees associated with other types of immigration status, and for legal fees and living expenses for local families whose loved ones were detained and ultimately deported. When needs arise, organizers of the fund communicate with the FC Peoples Fund’s circle of supporters, who help to spread the word and respond.

To join this circle, please email us at franklincopeoplesfund@gmail.com. To donate, supporters can use Venmo and send to Peoples Fund, or they can send checks to: Community Action Family Center, c/o FC Peoples Fund, 90 Federal St, Greenfield MA 01301. Checks can be made out to: CA Franklin County Peoples Fund

URGENT CALL FOR DONATIONS: At this moment, there are two urgent calls for support. One is for a local youth and the other is for a single mother of a disabled teen. Both are at risk of being deported in the very near future and both need monetary support for the legal aid necessary to fight their cases. In all, we need to raise $2500 in the next three weeks. Please join the effort to respond to this and future needs!
