Our June meeting was held in the FCCPR Office at 6:30 p.m., June 19th.
We heard from Greg Garrison, the president of Northeast Solar who described a project they are working on in Wendell to build a community solar coop. Our hope is that if this project works, we might help spread it to other Franklin County towns. There were many towns that did the Mass Solarize project but still had many residents who could not participate, perhaps because their roofs did not face the sun or were too small, or they rented their home or apartment, or they could not afford the expense.
Greg has been working for several years to solve the various legal obstacles to allowing a coop to build and own a large solar array where the tax benefits are distributed proportionately to the coop members. He believes he has all the wrinkles worked out and it testing it with a project in Wendell.
Our future meetings will be consistently held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month in the FCCPR office, 345 Main St., Greenfield at 6:30 p.m. Our next meeting will be July 17th. See you there.
