Will you ratify the vote of the Greenfield FCCPR members to endorse Sheila Gilmour for Mayor of Greenfield ?

Please look for the email from OpaVote, sent at 9:49am Tuesday

On May 30, the Electoral Endorsement Committee of Greenfield FCCPR met with two Greenfield Mayoral candidates who asked to be interviewed by FCCPR.

The two candidates were Roxann Wedegartner and Sheila Gilmour.

Roxann was formerly a member of the Greenfield School Committee and formerly served as chair of the Greenfield Planning Board. Sheila is currently a member of the Greenfield City Council, is an officer in her union and serves on the Coordinating Committee of FCCPR.

The interviews were quite extensive and were based upon the issues raised in the Greenfield FCCPR platform for the 2019 elections. After the interviews, the endorsement committee conferred and voted to
recommend endorsing Sheila Gilmour for Mayor of Greenfield.

A meeting was then held for all members of FCCPR who reside in
Greenfield. The members were given a Candidate Comparison document, (click here to view or download this document) which outlined the candidates’ answers to the questions they were asked. Members of the endorsement committee explained their rationale for endorsing Sheila.

A vote was then taken by the Greenfield FCCPR members and Sheila
Gilmour was endorsed for Mayor.

According to the endorsement procedure adopted by FCCPR regarding city or townendorsements, the entire membership is now being asked to ratify the decision of the Greenfield membership.

Do you agree with the vote of the Greenfield FCCPR members to endorse Sheila Gilmour for Mayor of Greenfield?

A ‘Yes’ vote means you agree with the vote of the Greenfield FCCPR
members; a ‘No’ vote means you do not agree.

VOTING WILL END AT NOON ON THURSDAY, JUNE 13! Please vote now.

On your email you can click the VOTE button and it will take you to the website so you can vote.

Shall we form a Housing Task Force as a new task force for FCCPR?

You are invited to come to a meeting on

Friday June 21 at 5:30pm at the FCCPR Office 345 Main St. (under Greenfield
Coffee)

The Housing Workshop at the Municipal Socialism Conference was one of the best attended. The discussion was lively and full of ideas and questions.

It was clear that the situation in Franklin County is in need of attention and action. Many communities across the country are working on this question and we can learn from them and add to the movement for fair and open and affordable housing in our own communities.

The panelists have agreed to lead the discussion on what we could
do as a task force to explore the situation and try to come up with
an meaningful plan of action relating to our different housing needs.

June 19th Women’s Dance at Hawkes & Reed 289 Main St. Greenfield
7:00pm

Breaking News!

Dr. Yves Solomon-Fernandez, newly-inaugurated president of GCC, will give opening remarks

The Women’s Rights Task Force of Franklin County Continuing Political Revolution is pleased to sponsor a dance party in celebration of women and the power we have in the electorate.

In June of 1919, Congress passed the 19th Amendment, which states, “the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.” This was a powerful victory, and we celebrate it as a great beginning when white women were granted access to ballots and to a voice. Black women were granted the right to vote 46 years later, in the 1965 Voting Rights Act. And ten years after that, in 1975, legendary Congresswoman Barbara Jordan of Texas fought to have the rights of “minority language” voters included as well. On June 19, we will honor all women and their contributions to political, religious, social and economic justice and gender equality, as well as our ongoing struggle to demand equality for all women.

All funds raised will donated to FairFightAction, which seeks to ensure “free and fair elections.”

Tickets: $10-$50, per ticket, suggested donations, with no one being turned away for an inability to pay.

Book discussion: “We the Sovereign” by Gianpaolo Baiocchi

At our conference on Municipal Socialism, many participants enjoyed the provocative questions that Gianpaolo Baiocchi raised in his closing remarks.

What does it mean for the people to actually rule? Formal democracy is an empty and cynical shell, while the nationalist Right claims to advance its anti-democratic project in the name of ‘the People’. How can the Left respond in a way that is true to both its radical egalitarianism and its desire to transform the real world?

Illustrated by the real-life experiences of movements throughout the world, from Latin America to Southern Europe, Baiocchi’s provocative vision will be essential reading for all activists who want to understand the true meaning of radical democracy in the 21st century.

Gianpaolo Baiocchi is a New York City-based scholar and activist. He directs the Urban Democracy Lab at NYU and works closely with
organizations such as Right To The City.

If you would like to take part in this book discussion, dates to be set, please email Dave Cohen at davidjc@comcast.net . We will be ordering the books soon.
