    6:30 PM-7:30 PM
    03/05/2026

Zoom link to our meeting, 3/5/2026

The current issues and questions that we are working on include:

    • Spreading the LUCE number far and wide.
    • How to best help those from Franklin County who have been detained? Help with legal fees?
    • How to raise money for those family members left behind? (Housing costs, food, basic needs)
    • Work with our state legislators to end in-person asylum-seeking appointments and do them virtually instead, as is being done in CA and during COVID. This would reduce ICE detainments at those appointments.
    • Research how we can help with ending deportations by Avelo Airlines, who have a site at Bradley in Windsor Locks
    • Teaching the public about the “Fast Facts on Deportation”. See our ‘Fast Facts on Deportations‘ fact sheet.

CODEPINK Protest and Solidarity, International Women’s Day

    2:00 PM-4:00 PM
    03/08/2026
    129 Main St., Northampton

Northampton, Massachusetts – Western Mass. CODEPINK will hold its 21st Annual Celebration of International Women’s Day on Sunday, March 8, 2025 from 2-4 PM at First Churches of Northampton located at 129 Main Street in Lyman Hall (entrance on Center Street) in Northampton, Massachusetts. The event, including refreshments, is free and open to the public.

“In 2026, while our rogue national government demonstrates an illegal agenda of hate and cruelty, CODEPINK sees an alternative vision, that another world is possible,” said CODEPINK member Susan Triolo.

Featured speakers include Paki Wieland, Nick Mottern,Patricia Gallagher, and Priscilla Lynch —members of Demilitarize Western Massachusetts —  who were found “not responsible” by the Northampton District Court for their protest inside the lobby of defense contractor L3Harris in Northampton. The group entered the lobby, spreading fake blood-stained money, and attempting a symbolic “citizen’s arrest” of L3Harris’ CEO as a statement against the company’s role in supplying weapons. Initially, they faced criminal charges of trespassing and disturbing the peace.

Paki Wieland, a notorious civil disobedience activist, locally and globally, for the last 40 years, said, “the judge’s verdict affirms our use of the “necessity defense” to the charges. “We believe it was necessary to take those actions to raise public awareness of the harm and danger of the military danger to humanity by the war industry right in our own back yard.”  Wieland is a founding member of Western Mass Code Pink and the Western Mass Raging Grannies.

This year, we will all raise our voices in song with the Western Mass Raging Grannies, and song leaders Ann Ferguson, and Anne Louise White,  who will lead us in Community Singing of protest songs. Members of the Raging Grannies will sing several of their beloved political parody songs. Music will also include a well-known group of local women called Offbeat Womyn Drummers, who have performed for many years at IWD.

Shelly Berkowitz, MD (activist for Single Payer health insurance) and and Pixie Holbrook, Franklin County immigration and education activist) will speak on current bills in the Massachusetts State House (Massachusetts General Court) for Single Payer Health Care in the Commonwealth and Immigration Rights so that we can learn about and support these ongoing efforts.

International Women’s has been observed in many countries –including Russia–since around 1911, highlighting women’s rights and issues of concern to women.

Big protests matter. From emancipation to women’s suffrage, from civil rights to the sit-down strikes, mass movements have shaped the arc of American history.

There are many reasons to be in the streets in large numbers now. Here are three: – Gigantic actions like No Kings impact us! We are then more likely to take part in economic resistance, mutual aid and other actions. Research shows that protests foster lifelong civic engagement. – They impact politicians! They see that they will have support if they oppose the regime, and will lose support if they don’t. – They impact the population as a whole! People see on TV or on social media that their neighbors, their congregations and their co-workers are taking a public stand.

And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise – street protests drove ICE out of Minneapolis!

“We expect this to be the largest protest in American history,” Ezra Levin, co-executive director of the nonprofit Indivisible, told The Associated Press ahead of Wednesday’s announcement. He predicted that as many as 9 million people will turn out.

“No Kings” protests, which are organized by a constellation of groups around the country, have been a focal point for outrage over Trump’s attempts to consolidate and expand his power.

  • REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE TASK FORCE BOOK EVENT

REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE TASK FORCE BOOK EVENT

    2:00 PM-4:00 PM
    03/29/2026
194 Long Plain Road (Rt. 63), Leverett, MA

We are excited to present a discussion and book-signing event featuring Loretta J. Ross and Marlene Gerber Fried, two longtime leaders in the reproductive justice movement. They will be discussing and selling copies of their new book, Abortion and Reproductive Justice: The Essential Guide to Winning Rights (University of California Press).

The authors are known to many as scholars and teachers connected to Hampshire and Smith Colleges who are also activists for reproductive justice. Marlene Fried is one of the co-founders of the National Network of Abortion Rights Funds, and Loretta Ross is a co-founder of Atlanta-based Sister Song Women of Color Reproductive Health Collective. They are also both authors of other books on reproductive rights.

The book has been praised by Ms. Magazine as “required reading for anyone dedicated to bodily autonomy and sovereignty,” and brings together critical perspectives on abortion within a broader reproductive justice framework—centering the lives and leadership of people most impacted by systemic inequities.

The event is sponsored by the FCCPR Reproductive Justice Task Force. Co-sponsors include Amherst Feminist Generation, Western MA CODEPINK Women for Peace, the Unitarian Society of Northampton and Florence, the Abortion Truth Campaign and the Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies department at UMass Amherst.
