On July 17th, the anniversary of Rep. John Lewis’ passing, we’re mobilizing across the country. Here in Greenfield, we will be protesting buget cuts. The Republican budget will give millionaires an average tax break of $90,000 per year, while people earning 50,000 dollars will see a $300 dollar tax break. Corporations will see trillions of dollars in tax breaks. The National Debt will increase by 3 trillion dollars. While the rich and corporations get huge tax breaks regular people will suffer. The proposed budget will cut Medicaid by one trillion dollars. It is estimated that 17 million people will lose their health insurance coverage due to the cuts and rule changes that Trump is demanding.

Many hospitals rely on Medicaid funding and it is predicted that many hospitals will close due to the lost revenue brought about by Medicaid cuts. According to the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research at the University of North Carolina, Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield is at risk to close because of the funds that will be lost due to Medicaid cuts.

Addressing the crisis in rural health care access is a national, bipartisan priority, and it should be bipartisan to not worsen it. However, if your party passes these health care cuts into law, Americans in rural communities across the country risk losing health care services and jobs supported by their local hospitals. We urge you to read the attached report and reconsider your position. It is not too late to stop these cuts. Billionaire tax breaks are not worth the cost to American lives and livelihoods.” – Ed Markey, US Senator, MA, in a letter to Trump
