Ferd Wulcan: State’s efficient response to Conway tornado demonstrates our tax dollars at work

The recent tornado in Conway was a major local crisis. But it also showed the importance of state and federal policies on our local area.

There had never been a February tornado in Massachusetts before, and we have all noticed the recent increase in dramatic weather events. Most experts agree this is a result of human-caused climate change and that we should expect more temperature extremes and major storms.

Town o cials were thrilled with the fast, e cient and knowledgeable help the town received from the state. This highlights the importance of state taxes to our well-being, but raises questions about who pays their fair share and who doesn’t?
